    I was being sarcastic!

His host have e-mailed me just to say the matter would be investigated and if it's found to be true (which it obviously will be) they will caution him. Not really strict enough TBH

Madboy... i'm not taking the 'certain substance'... but if you actually downloaded and executed it, then it's naivety on your part which is the problem.

I mean, let's be honest... he's not the only one to have done it... and you're not the only one to be infected by it... and yet people still run software from people they don't know! If it's an admin or genuine member... then maybe i'de think about it... but no way would I download that to my main system for him!!!!!

I ran it in a VM window, and all the firewalls went beserk... so I knew something was wrong! That's why I e-mailed his host!

Anyway... it's done & finished now...

    Okay, two things --

Among other things, SnakeMaker's user name and IP were both banned from this forum. If he is wise, he will put as much distance between his IP (computer) and this site as he can thus no point in writing personal attacks at him here.

Secondly (as the admin, I need to say....) , profanity is a violation of the AUP (acceptable usage policy). I've been a bit easy on this due to the issue that is being addressed; however, there is a limit to what can be tolerated. At this time, I'd like to ask everyone to keep it clean. We have some young ones that use this board.

    Thanks all

    Brad

Its not the fact though that my machine is at risk, other peoples is too.

And quite franctly he desevers everything thrown at him. People have valuable money software on there PC, sure theres backups why lose it though? It is so annoying that someone can stoop that low, take it from me, if you want money get something called "A JOB "

As for young ones brad, i know what you mean. Sorry for my language, but that really does pee me off. What makes it more annoying is i actually tried to annoy him. Im a 17 year old college student, and in any free time i come here to help people. (if im not raving and down the pub )

Well.....i guess he has gone to another forum to do the same, which i dont care because i like this forum and a lot of the people in it. Oh well, someone always takes it too far

I'll stick to that What happens if his IP is dynamic?

I'll never see the point of banning via DNS/IP!!!

If his IP is dynamic (Which is 90% of all internet users) then he will come back in a day or two and if he is smart he will create a new account and not say anything about this and we will never know the difference.

The only way to ban a dynamic IP is to ban the entire subnet, but then you risk banning thousands of people that had nothing to do with it.

So IP banning is actually only a deterant to stop people for a few days at most.

    That was my point.

I hope nobody wants to register with his old IP then!

It's definately a difficult issue to police
The mods can only do so much, most of it's out of their hands and nothing can be done about it.

To be fair, if anyone runs compiled code that random people post on forums then to a certain extent they "deserve" anything that happens to their PC.
I am constantly ranting at people to post code and not compiled projects, but most of the time it falls on stoney ground

What I would like to see, and this is my personal opinion and no-one elses, is for the AUP to be changed so that the posting of compiled code would be a violation. However, this shouldn't be addressed here, and would be for the mods and Brad to decide on. *nudge* *nudge*

VisionIT, you would run compiled code from me wouldn't you? Go on, you know you want to

    BS like this is gay.

Someone did this to a very large forum I used tor egularlly visit. he posted a program that he said he made (which he didn't) and supposedly it does some calculations. Instead, it searched for ALL pictures and then replaced them permenantly with goatse (www dot goatse dot cx if you want to see the nasty ****, be warned).

He was temp banned from posting for about a month, lol.

But I can't believe someone like Snaked tried something like this, when most/all of the people here are programmers. Was he really that stupid?

I don't trust my own code. So I don't code.

But I need to code, it's my job.

    So I code under a pseudo-name.

Grrrrrrrrrrr...I have only ever posted one bit of compiled code on here. And that was an EXE that popped a MsgBox up that mimiced a system error and said it was toasting the reg and win files and that your OS and apps needed re-installing. When you clicked OK another MsgBox popped up saying "That is how easy it is to toast someones computer...Don't run compiled code!".
It was a post in response to someone who was trying to get users to run his compiled EXE and I wanted to show how easy it was to trash a PC.
What I couldn't believe is that people actually ran my EXE, which was 100% harmless and just contained 2 lines of MsgBox code *sigh*

Perosnally if I wanted something testing I would post the code, not the EXE anyways, so there would never be a need for any of you to be asked to run my compiled code.

But it's nice to see you all trust me you bunch of gimp scribbling plastic vicars...Booooooo hog warts!

    I trust you (why )

I know that you (and most other people) wouldn't do something like SM did, but it doesnt mean that you never make a mistake.. which is why i always check source code that is posted here.

I've seen API calls in code that haven't been called correctly, and have caused a nasty crash; I've seen code to delete files that doesnt specify the file(s) properly, so it deletes something else. Just to be safe, I always check first.

Wow, I always wondered where all the snake game references came from, now I know. I'm quite stunned. I only wish the links to his site still worked because that must be fascinating reading.

And there do appear to be a few zombies shuffling into the thread.
