Maybe it's pretending to be sick to appar human and fool us. Like those robots in Screamers (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0114367/). That girl that turns out to be a robot at the end (if you haven't seen the movie by now I don't care that I've spoilt it) can bleed and perform other marriage related tasks.
