Not really - the people I work with who will evaluate him aren't that obtuse, and they'll be asking me for my opinion of him when the time comes.

It's not a very formal environment here, it's almost remnant of the code-companies from the 90s where the managers would step back, let us do our stuff and then give us pizza when we got the job done. Almost.

I've had people like techgnome's example join the company with devious ways of doing things. Devious in a malicious sense here. The mess they leave behind isn't worth the politeness and beating around the bush. Case by case basis.
