How do I know wich ones are unconfirmed ?

They are sorted in your outbox folder, at the bottom.
I got burned by something like that many years ago.
Somone knew how to read a message, and not send a receipt.
Cost me big.

You mean with this icon http://www.vbforums.com/images/statusicon/pm_new.gif ? There are none with that icon.

No, he means to click on the hyperlink text link below the inbox combo box. It will take you to another page that will list out all the confirmed and unconfirmed PMs. ;)

Thanks MartinLiss, that worked... now I know the 3 I have unread...

Hey Martin, can we Mods get a bump in PM box storage limit? I see you have twice as many as we get. :(

MartinLiss
Jul 14th, 2005, 05:38 PM
You'd have to ask Brad about that. What I do when I get full is to download what I have as a file and start fresh.

dglienna

We only get 200.

Will that mean that the PMs in XML format will still be valid unreputeable proof for when we need to enforce the AUP?

I think our storage limit should increase based on how many rep points we receive. Gotta get something out of them, right? Just a thought. I mean think about it. The person that has helped so many people, earning all of these points, and the number of thank you PM's or questions increase as a result.

I agree with Jacob Roman, private messages don't take a lot of space (usually short message and no attachments), so I don't see why we would not have more...

RobDog888, can you help me here please ? How to Insert a row in Excel ? (http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.php?t=349600) :D
I know, I know, I'm not supposed to post here about that, but since I took your attention with current thread :)

Maybe I outta create a separate thread in the Forum Feedback regarding post #11. Brad Jones might update the software with this feature. :)

Replied CVMichael. ;)

I dont think the software would have anything to relate Reps to PM space and it would require a hack (not the Moderator :))

It would probably could be a batch process that ran once a day if they did allow the hack.

I don't see why regular members need to store more than 200 messages online when they can be stored offline.

What's AUP ?

MartinLiss

Acceptable Use Policy (http://www.jupitermedia.com/corporate/privacy/aup.html)

Will that mean that the PMs in XML format will still be valid unreputeable proof for when we need to enforce the AUP?Sure. I'm sure in the unlikely situation where someone accused you of changing the data then Joe could get a copy from backup.

Oh, ok. That was my main concern of DL'ing all my PMs in case something was to come up. It will be harder to search
the XML file but ???

I'll probably loose interest too but I may give it a try in VB.NET :)

? When you DL the messages does it DL both Inbox and Sent Items? or single box at a time?

MartinLiss
Jul 14th, 2005, 06:27 PM
It downloads everything.

dglienna
Jul 14th, 2005, 06:59 PM
It's a separate process for sent and received messages. I've done it enough, and don't think I've duplicated anything. I also download them in text format, CSV style. Opens up in Excel, although columns are not correct.

I've referred back to them occasionally, but never for anything that might require any proof from the backups.

Its different for the Mods+ because what if I was to send a member a PM when they violate the AUP? They respond to it ignoring
the warnings. I Ban the member and then they dispute ever getting notice. If the DL'd PM wouldnt hold up in showing an effort to
give the member a chance then we would have to retain every important PM communique for future use. ;)

Now since they do hold up as a place holder for where to look to get the actual PM off of the backups then that will let us releave our PM boxes
from having to archive everyone of them.

So tonight I will DL them but its just nicer and easier to have them all in one place. :)

Jacob Roman
Jul 14th, 2005, 07:29 PM
You could fill up a members PM box by mass PM bombing them the same message to not violate the AUP ever again. That should get his attention big time, and he/she would definitely listen. :)

Not that you will actually do it. It's just a method to get the ignorant members to listen to you or they will be banned.

RobDog888
Jul 14th, 2005, 07:37 PM
Naw, we dont have to do that. They get a chance (depending of the violation) to respond. If not within a reasonable time frame,
a Banning will help them to remember what not to do. ;)
