It was all good and normal then.
The EU was fine with the antiwoke bans and now it's not fine with the woke bans (if there are, have not checked , not using social media). Since I hate EU (the new EU) and what it represents with every bone in my body,

I personally would say there is a big difference in allowing free speech (that you may consider woke) like "asylum seekers have legal rights" and "asylum seekers are filthy animals and I am happy they are dying at sea, their children would just steal our benefits and deserve to die".

That's because the other side of the fence aren't shouting about free speech. The other side of the fence recognise that unfettered free speech is actually highly destructive. They don't object because they don't find curtailing free speech objectionable when that speech is used to defame, spread hate and/or spread dangerous disinformation.

I was most definitely not expressing an opinion regarding asylum seekers, however the phrasings used in my second example (and in fact considerably worse) are most definitely the kind of thing I have seen on Twitter. "Free speech" that spreads hatred, disinformation, and stirs up violence probably does deserve to be censored.

He paid to have other people play the game to get characters to advanced levels and have all the best gear. Then he streamed himself playing and passed those characters off as his own. It was pretty obvious what he was doing because he didn't know how to do some of the most basic things in the game, indicating he'd barely actually played it.

Honestly, it's a pretty silly and trivial thing to have a scandal about and I honestly couldn't care if he pays someone to boost a game for him - he's got the money and if he wants to play an advanced character, why the hell not? It's a pretty big deal in the gaming community but, personally... meh. But the fact that he'd previously boasted about how "leet" a player he was and he was streaming explicitly to demo his skills just showed him as dishonest and more than a little hubristic to think it wouldn't be obvious. Then when gamers took to Twitter to call him out their account started getting banned on unspecified T And C violations and they started getting their check marks removed - that's where the hypocrisy about free speech absolutism comes in.

I think the rows around his support of H1B visas is far more important as it actually deals with politics and the economic future of the USA. I agree with him 100% on the visas - they will be good for America and good for the people who avail themselves of them. I suspect his motivations, as a potential employer of those individuals, are somewhat more self centred but I'll still call it a good thing if the outcome is positive.

Of course, I also believe that the USA will (and already does) benefit massively from low skilled immigration too and, if Trump does follow through on his rhetoric to deport them all, the impact on the US economy is going to be disastrous. There is a world wide demographic decline going on at the moment and the Nations that will have healthy economies in 20 years time will be the ones that succeed in attracting migrants today. Nativism will simply accelerate the collapse.

But whether I agree with him or not, the fact that he started banning and removing check marks from MAGA influencers who objected to his position speaks volumes about his lack of integrity.

I'd say the happiest people about Trump being president are the media and the lawyers. There will be shortage of news and outrage with Trump as president. The lawsuits over the things he does have already begun and I'm fairly sure he will keep the lawyers and courts very busy.
