Everybody I know has some kind of hobby that they pursue almost beyond reason.

I don't know what kind of people some of you have lived with but I grew up around middle to lower class people. One of the things you always hear in any social setting is complaints about their lot in life. "I can't pay my rent", "my child's father is not helping me", "I need money to fix my roof", "I can't buy anything for my son's birthday"....yet these same people can give you a detailed information about their favorite sports stars and all the things they did in their life. All I can think to myself if it they spent even 10% of the time they spent learning all that rubbish to learn something that's actually useful, then perhaps they can use that knowledge to earn more money.

If someone wants to pursue a passion beyond reason, I say have at it but do not complain about your life falling apart. You should accept that as a consequence of your choices.
