Debugging VB6.exe using manifest file with com free registration.

    Hello,

I've created COM free registration exe.manifest file for my application and it works fine. However when I'm trying to debug this in VB6.exe it doesn't work. I've created VB6.exe.manifest but it can't read that, getting ActiveX errors. Maybe VB6 got embeded manifest file and that's why it can't load external file? Anyone could advise? Maybe you had that issue and got solution? Please let me know.

    Thanks,
    Jakub

    Hi,

It's there. I'm wondering if debugging com free registration is possible, if it's then probably I did something wrong.

    Thanks,
    Jakub

Reg-free COM and isolated assemblies is a packaging and deployment technology. So if you are talking about running within the IDE, reg-free COM does not apply. Development machines must have all of the libraries that your application uses fully installed and registered, along with developer design-time licenses where required.

Don't try to use isolation manifests with VB6.EXE at all. This is likely to do nothing but cause problems.

Responding to just the above statement -- yes, that would be a problem on Vista and above. XP would use an external manifest if an embedded manifest existed or not. Now, external manifests can only override embedded manifests if a registry setting exists
