Should Soccer Replace Football?

I am not up to date on the Irish pronunciations of words, can you tell me the correct way to say Gaelic?

In this context it's GayLick with the emphasis on the first syllable (and I'm now wishing there was a better way of illustrating that!!!!) If you were talking about the language spoken in the Western and Northern isles of Scotland however it would be Gall(as in gallon, not as in galling)Ick.

Gaelic is quite a lot of fun to watch as well as Hurling.

I have to admit hurling was a new sport for me. It looks like cross between rugby and aerial hockey. Imagine a group of rugby players using a hockey ball instead of a rugby ball allowed to run into each other at full speed, next give each one of them a hockey stick (shaped with a bigger flatter head to make it easier to strike the ball) and allow them to hit the ball into the air as hard as they want, then take away all protective clothing except an optional helmet; now what could possibly go wrong????

And the hybrid International Rules games between the Irish and the Aussies frequently degenerate into gloriously violent free-for-alls to the point where they called it off for a couple of years.

Gaelic or hurling, my money has to be on hurling although gaelic could easily go the same way!



The soccer player was thinking: "Man I hate having to play 2 extra halves when the scores are tied; this way I can rest for a minute!"
The AFL player was thinking: "Blood bin, I don't need to go to the blood bin for a paper cut!"

if the majority of the players use their hands to carry the ball for more than 50% of the time, then to me it is handball and not football.

Ah well, there's a bit of a problem there because the majority of the players in American football never play the ball at all (or very, very rarely)! Oh and Handball is already a designated sport.

Is is a short first syllable as in GAY-lick, or much longer as in GAAAYYY-lick?

Ah well, there's a bit of a problem there because the majority of the players in American football never play the ball at all (or very, very rarely)! Oh and Handball is already a designated sport.

That is true, a lot of the time they do just run into each other at full steam with no ball involved, although I think the quarterbacks would take issue with you for completely forgetting about them!
