I think the way Martin is running the contest is just fine. Besides you don't want to create more unneccessary work for him and give him another reason not to do another contest. I like the contest just the way it is. It could use more voting from the members of course. Sending PMs is not difficult at all as far as the voting process goes.
Make as many mistakes as you can as quickly as you can. We want to make sure that we make a great enough number of mistakes in a given amount of time so that we can be successful.

I don't mind any work involved. As a matter of fact it was fun to create some software to help me tally the votes (such as they were). (I blanked out the Pts and other non-winning Entry names.)
I have an idea that will hopefully increase the number of contestants and the number of voters.
Why not introduce forum awards like many other forums do? Like you create a small gif with the award that the member has gained and put it with the member's name/avatar/icon. That would show all the people that the person has won that award. A huge ego boost and a way to make things fun, I'd say.
Plus keep the contest going, giving up only because the contestants are too less or the voters is like taking defeat. Come on, fight it, why give up like a loser and whine in a corner? Thats not fit for the admin of a prestigious forum as this.
If your problem is solved, then drag down the Thread Tools and mark your thread as Resolved.
If I helped you solve your problem, inflate some air into my ego by rating my post and adding a comment too.
For notorious issues (elaborate yourself) contact me via PM. I don't answer them in the forums EVER.
@lone_REBEL: It looks like, Marty doesn't have access to the source code of the forum software to make any changes !

We could do that but the main problem isn't getting people to enter but rather getting them to vote.

Marty, i would have voted but i find the photo thread confusing, why cant you separate the threads and actually have one called "Photo Votes" or something.
As i was not entering the contest, i tend not to click much on the contest link past the first time and then forget about it.
If you had a new thread about the votes i think it would increase the number of non-contestants that would vote.
Please Mark your Thread "Resolved", if the query is solved & Rate those who have helped you

Good idea. If I do the contest again I will do that, thanks.
Thanks. Maybe I will run it again and use NeedSomeAnswers' suggestion and create a new 'VOTE in the VBForums Photo Contest - It's Easy' thread.
for clarification, i was referring to the last programming contest. For example the games contest only had three or four entries. I think the best option is to spam the heck out of people with mass-IMs. Unless you want to bug us to death with pop-ups. We can always choose to not read the private messages so it's not like you would REALLY bother us.
I think what may happen is that there's a certain level of "noise" that we get used to skipping over at the top of the forums. I'm not equating "noise" with "not valuable" but in the interest of efficiency, we are trained (though time and experience) to take our eyes directly to the "target area" of any forum we are reading. If something doesn't say "HEY LOOK HERE" in some manner that says it from peripheral vision, then we miss it. =(
I'm trying to think of how that could be pulled off and I can't think of a good solution that wouldn't require a partial board recoding.
Colors would help. But you can't do colors in thread titles =(
Need to re-register ASP.NET?
C:\WINNT\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v#VERSIONNUMBER#\aspnet_regiis -i
(Edit #VERSIONNUMBER# as needed - do a DIR if you don't know)

Please fill out my survey and add this suggestion so I don't forget about it. Since I can add html code in announcements I may be able to add color to them although I've never tried it.

I seem to remember a few years ago they actually did make a change to the code of the site, but i have no idea if it was source code or if it was some kind of xml settings file. I had asked months ago if it was feasable to get the forum thread combo moved to the top of the window, but i'd have settled for a grease monkey script. I tried to make one myself and failed.
That's correct, I don't have access to the code. There is a support group that does that but they are responsible for all of internet.com's websites and there are a lot of them, and so changes are made on occasion but only if there is a compelling reason to do so.
