[RESOLVED] Tags
Why do my thread tags have to be from whatever list VBForums has? I want to be able to apply tags I deem applicable to my thread, however I can't because I can't create tags.
This doesn't seem right. Just as an example, how is there not even a "tabcontrol" tag?
I find this very frustrating because these tags can help people find these threads way more efficiently.

Re: Tags
I could be wrong, but I think only PowerPosters (people with 2000+ posts) have the ability to create tags.
A limit is needed because we have had spammers use it, and also many newer members would create tags that were far less than ideal.

Re: Tags
Do people actually search by tag ? (I just discovered this feature by reading this)
It seems that I can add tags to threads not created by me (any thread), but only 2 tags. (I added "Thread tag" tag to this thread)
For threads created by me, I can add up to 5 tags.
For example I added a tag in one of my threads in the CodeBank, and when I seach for it (the tag), that was the only thread that it returned. I.e. Search for "Encryption"

Re: Tags
Hmmm, that's weird...
I added "decryption, encryption" tags to 2 threads, when I search for "encryption" tag it returns only one thread, but when I search for "decryption", it returns both threads.
But the first thread has 3 tags, so I think it does not find the last tag in the list.
[Edit] Actually, the thread that has 3 tags, the last tag is "sql server", and when I search for that it finds the thread... so I don't know why it finds only one thread when I search for "encryption"
[Edit 2]
When I do "Search" -> "Tag Search" and search for "encryption" I get both threads, but when I do "Search" -> "Advanced Search" and in the tag search I type "encryption", then I get only one thread.

Re: Tags
PowerPosters (and obviously mods/admins) can create new tags. We had let others create tags, there was some abuse (spam), so we cut it off to PowerPosters. Anyone should be able to add any tags that currently exist. If you don't find a tag that you think is critical, then as a mod, power poster or admin if they can add it. A simple thread in Feedback requesting a new tag should work to get one added.
In the mean time, at 1600+ posts, you are well on your way to being a power poster anyway!
Brad!

Some things on the forum are updated in CRON jobs (not immediately). It would make sense for tags to be updated in a job. My guess (I didn't look) is that this is why it took a little time.
Brad!
