In terms of testing though, keeping around a XP, or Vista VM can be very handy though.

True and I do have both but I only use them for testing. So far I have no issues running the following in tandem:

    VS2008
    VS2010
    XNA 3.1
    XNA 4.0 beta
    Silverlight 2,3 & 4
    Office 2007 & 2010
    Expression Suite 3 & 4

I do have to say I have a VM for technical previews that I want to try but not use on a regular basis. I did talk to a few people who recommended against Server2008 as an operating system. 3 of them from this forum and two where previous members.

Windows 7 with virtual pc seems fine for my limited use.

    Hey,

Just thought I would follow up with this.

I bought myself a Dell Studio 15. Got it in the post yesterday, and so far, loving it!!

Made a couple of tweaks from the base offering, so it came in at £800, but think it is worth it.

    Here you go....

    Dell Studio 15
Intel Core i5-540M (2.53GHz, 4 Thread, Turbo Boost to 3.06GHz, 3 MB Cache)
    Windows 7 Home Premium
    4096MB 1333MHz Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM
1GB ATI Mobility Radeo HD5470 Graphics Card
250GB (7200 RPM) SATA Hard Drive
2.0 Mega Pixel Integrated Web Camera
15.6 Widescreen Full High Definition (1920x1080) WLED with TrueLife Screen
    Backlit Keyboard

I debated about whether I was going to go with the i7 or not, but in the end, decided against it.

    Thanks! So far so good.

I haven't put anything on it yet, trying to decide how I want to approach it, and do things right the first time.

Thats pretty nice. I just bought an HP and received it yesterday. Here are the specs. This thing is blazing fast! I was also thinking i7, but glad I saved the money.

    HP Pavilion dv7t

    • Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-450M Dual Core processor (2.40GHz, 3MB L3 Cache)with Turbo Boost up to 2.66 GHz
    • 8GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    • FREE Upgrade to 500GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
    • 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5650 switchable graphics [HDMI, VGA] - For Dual Core Processors
    • 17.3" diagonal HD+ High-Definition HP LED BrightView Widescreen Display (1600 x 900)
    • FREE Upgrade to Blu-Ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW Double Layer
    • HP TrueVision Webcam and Fingerprint Reader
    • Intel Wireless-N Card
    • FREE Upgrade to Norton Internet Security(TM) 2010 - 3 Year from 2 Year (activation required)
    • Standard Keyboard
    • One 6 Cell (standard) and One 9 Cell (over-sized) Lithium Ion Battery
    • System Recovery DVD with Genuine Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

Not bad for $1280.00 I found a $200 coupon code online, which helped. I always Google coupon codes before ordering because you know what you'll find.

That is a nice laptop Cavar, and a nice price!!

I was debating about whether to up the RAM, but decided to wait and see. Can always throw in more RAM later.
