FF Playoff Draft Sheet
Sorry for the intrusion, but I just need a place to temporarily host a spreadsheet for use in a playoff draft. By "temporary" I mean around an hour. Thanks for the indulgence.

You mean Association Football? That's known as soccer in countries that have real football, like Canada, Australia and the US.

Ah No !!
Its known as Football in hundreds of countries apart from Canada, Australia and the US where they have strange games that have nothing to do with football and where the players foot and ball rarely come in contact with each other !
Football is a game with where you kick a ball around a field attempting to get it into your oppositions net. The kicking the ball bit is very important as that is were the name come from, as in kicking the ball with your foot !!!

The "foot" part of football means "on foot" as opposed to mounted on horseback, ala polo.
And why should I, as a native English speaker, care about the opinions of ESL'ers regarding my native tongue? They are simply wrong. It would be like me trying to explain to the French that they were misusing a French word. This kind of arrogance displayed by the rest of the world's soccer fans puts the stereotypical American arrogance to shame.

When I have the opportunity to tell the French that they are doing something wrong, particularly with regard to their own language, I am all over it.
The same goes for Americans.
Next time I'm stateside, I'm going to re-annex the place in the name of Her Majesty.

Odd, then, that you don't recognize the word soccer, it being a British word and all.
It would be just as foolish for Brits to complain bitterly when an American refers to himself as a Yank, with the Brit loudly proclaiming "You're not a Yank, you're an American!"
All it does it highlight the ignorance of the Brit. Maybe if you guys ever created a real football game like most of your former Empire did you wouldn't be so insecure about the word soccer.

I recognise the word, and i recognise it as the word that countries that don't play Football very well use to describe Football !
Let me explain a little further, imagine you went to Canada and you found that instead of calling American Football, Football or American Football they instead called it something else like Throw-Egg ! (There was an excellent post by one member on this forum in fact explaining why American Football should actually be known as - ThrowEgg), my post was just a reaction to that and i was attempting to humourus !!

You can call yourself whatever you want, but you wont find anyone British that refers to football as Soccer unless they have been living outside the country too long !

Do tell me, what constitutes a proper football game ?
Also i would like to hear about these so called football type games created by our former empire. I would be really interested if you could name 1 other than American Football (which is derived from Rugby anyway).
What i find funny is that actually i am more of Rugby fan than football and if you have ever seen a game of rugby, apart from that fact that you cant through the ball forward (think lots of laterals) it actually has some similarities to American Football !

I wouldn't care a whit. I certainly wouldn't feel insecure about it, as so many Brits are. (Ably demonstrated by you.)
Also i would like to hear about these so called football type games created by our former empire. I would be really interested if you could name 1 other than American Football (which is derived from Rugby anyway).
The NFL, the Canadian Football League, and Australian Rules Football. That's three countries that created their own, "real" football as defined by me.

Rugby's pretty good. Those guys are definitely nuts enough to count as real football. None of that rolling around on the ground pretending that you've been mortally wounded that's so prevalent in soccer.
The reason soccer fans get so insecure is that ALL football including rugby was originally derived from soccer. That's why there is so much resistance to change in the sport. Everytime someone makes a change, they realize a few more changes would make it even better and then blammo you have a whole different sport that only bears the most trivial semblance to soccer. And then those new sports immediately and forever become much more popular than soccer in those countries. So yeah, I get the insecurity. I just find it funny.

If you had actually read what i said, you would see that i was attempting to be funny (my sarcasm obviously went straight over your head), Do you have problem with British people by the way ?
The NFL, the Canadian Football League, and Australian Rules Football. That's three countries that created their own, "real" football as defined by me.
I said apart from American Football, Canadian Football is another form of Gridiron as well, and as For Aussie Rules well that is basically Gaelic Football they robbed it from the Irish, as it's almost exactly the same game. There are very few truly new games created anymore.
Rugby's pretty good. Those guys are definitely nuts enough to count as real football. None of that rolling around on the ground pretending that you've been mortally wounded that's so prevalent in soccer.
Yep i have to agree, Rugby in my opinion is one of the best game on the planet. I used to play them game for about 20 years until injuries forced me to retire myself !
The reason soccer fans get so insecure is that ALL football including rugby was originally derived from soccer.
I like Football, Rugby in fact most sports i have no insecurities about any of them ! I have to say though i don't get Baseball, i tried to watch a game once on TV and it bored me to hell !
And then those new sports immediately and forever become much more popular than soccer in those countries.
I thought that i had heard somewhere that Football (or soccer if you want to call it that) is the fastest growing Sport in the US.

See Etymology here Wiki. My son loves 'football', I think mostly because his wife is from Rome. For me it is like watching golf, mostly boring and then someone does something marvelous, simply MahVelous. Give me the NFL any day.

That is one of the weirdest statements I have seen on this site. Care to back it up with some stats? I can't decide which half I find more suspect, the part that all football derived from soccer or the part where the new sport immediately became more popular.
By the way, the 'fastest growing sport' can be a mirage. When you start from a low enough level, even a modest net increase in numbers is a substantial percent increase.

Did you know American football was derived from a competition where two people would snort strings of spaghetti until they had reached a point where they thought they were macho? Those shoulderpads? The plates they used to serve the spaghetti on. Then they span on their heads and with this they realised they could actually copy the Brits with their rugby and call it football.
It's totally true too. You can thank me later.
