You may be missing the fact that reputations serve two purposes. One they allow people to say thanks in a lasting way ...

I said before and I'd say again (as many times as it takes: ordinary "Thank you" is more than enough but more ofthen it's difficult to get even that little.

You may be missing the fact that reputations serve two purposes. One they allow people to say thanks in a lasting way, but perhaps more importantly they provide an indication of who to listen to when advice is given, or whose code to use when more than one solution is offered.

Like you I'd do it (and obviously have done it) without getting recognized ...
