Searcing
Just to check...is the indexing and stuff still not fixed. If it is then it is broken. Tried to search for Note that was my first account from 99, and it says I have 10 posts (at least after the crash) but I can only find ONE. And if I search for NoteMe, I get 500 results. Before the upgrade I got about 3500 (see under my avatar for the exact number (ReferedTo:*).

What about it...didn't it say your post count should go down? Not add 10 to the posts count when you only have ONE post on the forum. And the search I did for NoteMe, was in text field, and I refered to how many times someone have written "NoteMe" in their posts.

Re: Searcing
Maybe one thing...does the search result have a MAX hit now? Since it is EXACTLY 500...?
[Edit] Looks like that was the case....Mendhak shows up 500 hits too.

Thats what I was refering to. The way its worded sounds like it is supposed
to be 10 and your only finding one.

I can't see how you are getting this out of this:
Brad:
Post counts and thread counts will reflect what is currently in the database and system.

Re: Searcing
They were saying that due to deleted threads/posts your post count could go down.
I have heard that one member actually got additional post though. So maybe
its just a indexing issue?

Well I said that as a side comment in a chit chat thread.... .....well lets see what Brad or Heidi says when they see this thread. I am off.
PS: Brad, if you are answering. Can you give me a reason why the search results give us MAX 500 hits. Is it because of the strain to the server? Or do I have some option somewhere that I have missed where I can write a higher number?

Re: Searcing
NoteMe I believe the reason your post count went up could be because I remember a couple of threads got moved from ChitChat to the Games Section a while back because they turned out to be sensible & quite good, you remember? Well maybe all those posts counter acted the ones that would have made your post count go down and added 10 .
As for the 500 Max could it be something to do with Archive? This was an option on the bottom while it was being upgraded but once that happened it went. Maybe the archived content can't be reached because soemthign to do with this?

I am not sure if you are getting this. My FIRST account. Not NoteMe, but when I was still just Note, created in 99. The search function can't find more then ONE posts from that account. And it says it is 10. And then I have searched in ALL forum parts. So if what Brad said is valied, then there must be something wrong with the search button, since it says 10, but the search button can only find ONE.

Public Profile of Note:

Says Number of Posts = 10.
However, if you then search for all his posts, it only finds 1.
What happened to the missing 9?

Well not sure on that one though but the 500 issue is definitly because the searches are limited to max result of 500....If you change the date to "A year ago" then say Posts older than, you get another 500 posts. In my case if I do a year ago I get 500 posts in 2003, and when I do anydate the oldest one is still in 2004 . So the search is working its just the limit thta is making it difficult to search like that. Mind I don't think you should need more than 500 results anyway because if you're looking for a certain topic it will be less than 500 if you make it a specific query. The only use for more than 500 is to see your "real" post count .
When your thread has been resolved please edit the original post in the thread ( )
and amend "-[RESOLVED]-" to the end of the title and change the icon to , Thank you.

Re: Searcing
The search result limit is at 500. That is correct.
The search index was updated. The post maintenance has not been run, as I've been working on other issues. Since you guys keep asking, I'll run that now. I'm guessing the Note account will drop to 1.....

Brad!
Well that was both one good and one bad news at the same time...that account is worth 10 posts... ....
Thanks for the answer. But you didn't tell me why it is set to 500? What is the reason?

That is the forum default. When searching for a topic, rarely will more than 500 results be of any true value (a more specific search should be done). It also cuts down on server processing.
Brad!

- You spelled it wrong
- It is a word that is taken out of the indexing because it is too often used (or some other reason)
- You found a bug.

I found the error now. You cannot search for a string in quotes
Or anything like and, or, the, we, me. It says they are too common.

Sure you can. Use Advanced Search and enter "load ctl" (with the quotes) in the search box.

So you can. I think it was becuase my quote had those common words in like and an a which stopped it.

Re: Searcing
words like AND and OR and stuff is not allowed I think. And you should get an error message like:
Please specify some words or valid user names to search on. There were no matches for those that you specified.
And short words and very long words is still not indexed, like in the old days. And some other words like NOTHING is neither indexed because it is to common, and you should get a message like:
Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.
The following words are either very common, too long, or too short and were not included in your search : nothing
Remember that you can also use as you found out " ", and also * in your searches.

Re: Searcing
And is allowed. I did a search for grid and checkbox and got this.
Showing results 1 to 40 of 80
Search took 1.07 seconds. Search: Key Word(s): grid, checkbox
I got the same thing when I did a serach for grid checkbox
It's apparent because of the low number of hits that when you use two keywords with or without and that it is looking for posts with both keywords.
