destroyads.com is sending me a bloody pop-up window - almost like a net send messagebox saying "there's an open port on my pc & if I don't want these messages to appear to go & get a bit of software off their site".
I haven't got a firewall at home & don't want to really buy one just to block 1 port they're hacking me with so I guess my questions are:
1) From windows itself, can I block ports or certain people from accessing my computer
2) Am I within my rights since they've hacked me to bombard their inbox & network with messages, what's the law on this kind of spamming?!?!?

IE popup? you probably have some adware running. get ad-aware and remove it.
1. technically, nobody is supposed to be able to access your computer unless you have software that is allowing them to connect.
2. you haven't been hacked. popups are not considered hacking.

There is a service runing under windows you can turn off. I forget which one. I too had this problem till I shut off a lot of unnecessary services running.
I am thinking perhaps its the SMS one.

Monday Morning Lunatic
Disable the Messenger service.
Also, what's wrong with running a firewall. Blocks off ports like 135 and 139, 5000, etc. etc.
I refuse to tie my hands behind my back and hear somebody say "Bend Over, Boy, Because You Have It Coming To You".
