Earliest eBook reader, websites.

Strange and weird project thrust onto me. I need to find the earliest ebook reader ever released to market online.

Why do you need to find the easiest ebook reader every released? I thought maybe the earlier word processing programs? That is unless ebooks aren't just documents set out like books?

I though it was made by Sony but wasn't sure so I did quick search and here we go:
Sony Librie was apparently world's first true consumer ebook reader (http://www.mobilemag.com/content/100/333/C2658/).
To be fair I should mentioned that it was multi corp effort (Sony, Phillips, etc).
