FT Site Admin Sought for Comic Book eCommerce Company
The nation's largest dealer of vintage comic books seeks a site administrator to head up the operations of a new sister company that is getting set to launch. The ideal candidate will be experienced in programming & design, and also have a passion and knowledge for the market of vintage comic books. If you are reading this job posting and know someone whom you think might fit the bill, please forward this info to them. This will be a very exciting and fulfilling career for any self-professed “comic geek” who is smart and knows how to get the job done.
ABOUT THE COMPANY
The company's office, gallery and showroom is located in the heart of NYC, and specializes in “high end” vintage comic books originally published between the years of 1938-1975. Established in 1984, ecommerce and the web-development have become an increasingly important part of the company's business during the past 7 years. To remain ahead of competition in a rapidly changing market, the company is constantly innovating its database software with CRM tools, lead generation tracking, and improved methods inventory management. The company's latest initiatives are to provide enhanced web-based tools and a transactional environment for its customers, empowering them with the ability to create and control user-generated commerce and content.
TECHNOLOGY
In July 2006, the company migrated to a new, highly customized database platform integrating its legacy internal database operations with its new, revamped website. The new MySql database manages stock, customers, invoices, payments, leads and consignors. The staff, from top-to-bottom, interfaces with the database (hosted on a remote Linux Server) via a fat-client application built in Real Basic. Customer mailings are managed through PHP List, and design elements of the PHP website are primarily handled through a suite of browser-based admin tools.
THE ROLE
If you are unfamiliar with the word “CGC”, this probably isn't the right job for you. In addition to being tech savvy, this job requires the ability to establish oneself as a “guru” of the comic book market, and be able to advise buyers and sellers about the benefits of the new sister-company about to launch, and services it will offer. Being knowledgeable and well-spoken in person, in emails, and on message-boards will be a must. In essence, the admin responsibilities will include being a “good shepherd” to a growing web community.
In creating and filling this position, our company also seeks to bolster its in-house technological “know-how”. The most ideal candidate will bring his/her own coding and design skills to the table, as well as lend occasional desktop support and a watchful eye over the IT well-being of the business as a whole. The company also maintains positive relationships with several outside programmers, and this job will require almost daily interface with those individuals in the roles of both co-developer and project manager.
