Does it seem the site is unstable today to anyone else today?

Or is it just me?

It's hard to complain about the site being slow when you can't even get on it in the first place. Starting around 10:30am CST it went out on me. This is the first chance I've had to get back to it.... nice to see the site back up.... any idea what happened?

I got Timeout errors this morning too. Maybe it was a denial of service attack?

I'll ask the sys admins to check and see if something funny was happening yesterday morning.

It's not yesterday or today - it's every day:

What I don't understand is why this isn't noticeable from different locations?
I'm in the north-east of US of A.

Didn't get any errors (yet) but it takes somewhat 30 sec to load page and this is a T1 line.

I'll ask the system admins to do a check and to see if we had some bad bots on this morning.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Between 8am & 10am Central time, I had issues... it seems to be getting better though... at least it didn't total crap out on me like it did yesterday. - Brad before you can ask, I didn't post about it because I kept getting tiem out errors when I did... I did notice yesterday though that everytime I had a problem, it was when I was waiting on data from bs.serve-sys.com (or something like that). Actualy, most times I have problems, that's what's going on for me.

The sys admins restarted to server to make sure things were clean. They are watching the load on the server and will adjust accordingly. If you continue to have issues, please post them here so I can let the sys admins know.

Actualy, here (central TZ) it was out from 9:30pm to at least 10:40pm-ish (when I gave up), and then it was reaaaaaaaaally slllloooooooooww. When I did get in, I did see a gap in the time of posts, where there was at least an hour on inactivity.

I just now couldn't enter FF, nor this thread, Nor ChitChat. I saw that there were perhaps 22 people logged in, so I went to see where they were. I selected a thread from Who's Online, and got into it. I backed out, went to FF, and was able to enter this thread.

Strange Days indeed!

Aug 25, 2005 (four months to Christmas!)

I'm trying to find out from our Tech guys what is going on. My guess is that we have some bots or something on the site that are slowing it down. I'm working to find out for sure what the issue is so that we can resolve it and prevent it in the future.

Hey Brad, while you are at it, can you get them to find out what's up with bs.serving-sys.com? I notice that from time to time while moving about the forums, that my browser hangs for a time (noticibly from 5 sec to 43 sec) and the status bar reads "waiting for bs.serving-sys.com".... it's usualy ad related.... it's always bs.serving-sys.com when I get these little mini hangs.

Yeah, me too. bs.serving-sys or ds.serving-sys.com. That's when I can get in. It has been timing out on me for the last hour or so.

I'm getting "Page can not be displayed" errors. Its like the site is down but if I navigate to another page its fine, only a bit slow.

As Of 9:30 AM this morning I could not get to main page at all - something is really going on for the past number of days/weeks.

I've been told that traffic has been hitting some unusually high numbers. The tech guys are working to identify if there is a drain. They are also working to offload some of the work from the servers to help them keep up.

In summary, it is believed to be a load issue and things are being adjusted.

Within the last 10 minutes of this post it happened again.... I was *trying* to reply to a post and lost the post when I got the "This Page Cannot Be Displayed" error upon submit.

Tg
PS: When such things happen, is there an email we can send something to? Obviously when the site goes out, we can't get into post that there's a problem....

I have no idea if this is related.
But about 2 hours ago, I hit my backspace key to navigate to a previous thread, and My computer restarted.

an hour ago, I was trying to respond to a PM, made a mistake, and selected the page VIA the dropdown under the "Back" menu button, and my computer restarted.

It used to happen quite a bit, especially when I was visiting the USA network boards. It also had been happening if I was doing alot of dblclicking on Windows Explorer directories. But that stopped a few months ago.

But its now started up again. While I'm navigating VBForums. Coinciding with this recent Server issue.

:ehh:

Performance is very bad for past hour or so and it is on going (up and down ... up and down ...). I am personally sick of it. Whatever it is can't you at JM make this site to work smooth finally - for god sake, it's been awhile since you try our patience ...

RobDog888
Sep 10th, 2005, 12:06 PM
well, performance has been ok for me but I got allot of the Timeout and DNS errors this morning. :( Seems allot better now.

As always for me, when it works it's jolly fast (partly cos I blocked the ad servers in my hosts file :p) but there are a lot of "connection refused" errors. I am sure it is a load problem, not a connection issue.

I think they are working on it. Just look here. JupiterMedia is looking for a new linux system administrator:
http://www.jupitermedia.com/corporate/employment/jupitermedia/sysadmin.html
That has to be it..:)

PS: Yes, I am getting a lot of timeouts today too.

I don't really care who they are looking to replace - I hope they go out of business so we can buy this site out ... ;) and make it real HOME ...
