Couple of hosting questions (from a cable modem)

Ok, I have bought a domain name, but I'm running it through one of the free hosters, but they have that nasty banner at the top, and I would like to know how to host it from my computer running a cable connection.

Now, with a dynamic IP, how does the domain name know what my IP is all the time? Can someone list the steps in setting up a computer to host a website with the name www.whatever.com through a cable connection, or point me to a link?

Thanks for any help, and pardon the newbie thread

Basically, your dynamic DNS provider provides DNS servers for your domain, so when someone does a DNS lookup to resolve to domain name to the ip address, they are given the correct ip address you have currenty. The dynamic DNS provider generally provides an application or script that runs on your computer to update the DNS servers when your ip address changes.

Then you just need to install your server software and the dynamic dns client on the computer connected to the cable. It'll get more complicated if you have a firewall or NAT router, or your ISP tries to block servers or common ports.

    Get these: Mozilla Opera OpenBSD
I have books for sale: "MCSD in a Nutshell" and "VB Distributed Exam Cram" - PM me for details. Will also trade for a decent ATX Pentium 2 MB/CPU/RAM combo.
