Liar... Or Thief ? Who would you choose ? A Public Pole.
Ok, here is the situation.
You have 2 people to pick from to be your friend. You have to pick one.
The first person, you know is a thief. They will steal money from you if you leave it laying out in the open.
The second person is a liar. You know they have been caught in more than one lie.
Who do you pick ?
Please make your choice above.
Here is my opinion. And Why.
I choose the thief. I can always protect myself against a thief. You can lock your stuff, and you know to EXPECT that they will try to steal from you. Never invite him over ! don’t tell him where you live ! If you want, you can protect yourself.
But the Liar…. There is no way to protect yourself against a liar. You have no way of knowing what they will say about you when you have your back turned, what type of rumors they will spread. And since most people do not bother to investigate something that was told to them, they instantly believe it, and your reputation can be destroyed.
You have no way of knowing if what they are telling you is the truth, and you can not make any decisions based on anything they say because you don’t know if it is accurate.
Some day you may be basing your decisions in life solely on what someone else is telling you, “I put you in for a promotion.” So you decide to celebrate, buy that new car, new house… get married because now you will have the money… but hey, sorry… they lied… in fact, your getting fired. They just needed you pumped up so you would finish that project before the deadline..
Liars can have a profound impact on your life, with no way to protect yourself.
But this is just my opinion…
WHAT DO YOU THINK ?
Thanks !

sounds like someone is speaking from bitter experience, but hey, maybe that's just me... anyways, this question kinda stinks, as if you're gonna choose the thief as your friend because you can never have him over or see him or leave stuff around him... then how is he your friend? you could do the same with the liar (pack him up in a box, send him to tahiti...) and you'd very likely not get hurt.

Personally I would choose neither, life's too short to have friends I don't trust.
Since I have to pick one...the thief...at least they can get you some good stuff.

I would think that most theives would be liars because unless caught red handed they would probably deny that they took anything.

I chose the Liar, I couldn't care less what some other person says but I would care if they were talking my belongings.

I'd rather have the thief. They only take possesions, liars can take everything from you.

I'd have the liar - then tell him the opposite of everything - in lying he would tell the truth.
My secretary hopes that I will pay her, her landlord hopes that she will produce some rent, the Electricity Board hopes that he will settle their bill, and so on. I find it a wonderfully optimistic way of life. [Dirk Gently]

If i had to take an untrustworthy friend, I would take the liar. When you say liar, do you mean he lies about everything indiscriminantly? I know many liars, and they only do it occasionaly. I don't care what people think of me, but I do care about money and power. Both money and power can be stolen, but my reputation can not. And if the liar was really my friend, he wouldn't lie about me often anyway, would he? The principle is that a thief can every now and then get away with it, but liars always get what they deserve.

But they don't. Thieves can only take material posessions. Liars can take everything away from you, your friends, family, everything.

Lawyers ??? YIKES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lawyers are in a class by themselves.. i think the profession should be OUTLAWED. and most Liars.. sorry, Lawyers, be placed in Jail.
as far as they are concerned... the law has very little to do with Justice, or what's right and wrong. jsut about who can twist the facts the most, how much they can charge you for "service” and how much POWER they can throw in your direction.
"Kill em all, let God Sort them out !"

I would take the thief. If you took this far enough, the thief would certainly be preferrable.
Based on your explanation, it might be safe to say that the thief would never lie, but perpetually steal. And the liar would never steal, but would be extremely dishonest with you and others.
This means that the thief would never lie about whether or not he stole something. So his vice can be dealt with.
However, you would have to practically stalk the liar if you want to deal with his problem. Conversations (something that is done a lot with friends) would be severely limited in quantity and/or quality, because you don't know whether the liar would keep information confidential, and you also wouldn't know if what he says is true.

i would pick a liar.. cause in this world EVERYBODY lies
and once again, in this world.. anyone can find ur address and steal stuff from u, so u cant really 'protect' yourself
so i dont care if he lies to me.. stealing is more dangerous

sry but i have to raise my hand and say i am a thief and a liar (and a very good 1 at it), although i have never stolen off a friend of someone i know, but anyway, me nan always said "u can trust a thief but never trust a liar" i think its somethin to do with honour among thieves etc, but either way, i'd say the thief, coz ppl who lie regularly (and get caught) can't be trusted to do anything for ya, and can't be relied on for anything important.
but thats my opinion
