Installation Problems

I have problem here. After creating the installer package using P&W . I got this problem while install the program to other pc. What cause of this error?

Anyone who know anything about PDW or even uses it should automatically know the answer but for some reason it's seems that you are not to know about it so that you can post more.... You are using the wrong runtime file. This goes on and on. It the same answer every time but still... Your versions should be as indicated below.

Are you working on a Vista system? Those version of the runtime are no the universal ones as per my article. If you are should not be re-distributing those file anywhere. I have a document that explains all of this so that you don't have to keep asking questions that no one will answer directly.

Also you should not be re-distributing MDAC components... You should deploy the whole MDAC except on Vista.

Msvbvm60.dll version 6.0.98.2 was never even released as far as I can tell.

Not listed at DLL Help Database anyway, but then Vista doesn't show there at all yet either.

We had some problems deploying our app and the latest version we found is found Version 6.0.98.2. of msvbvm.dll

This is in Service Pack 6 for Visual Basic 6.0: Run-Time Redistribution Pack (vbrun60sp6.exe). NOTE: This is NOT the same as Service Pack 6 for Visual Basic 6.0 and we sure wish they had named it something else.

Also, it is killin us cause we really would like to find a msm (merge module) for this thing so we can package it with out install shield setups. Right now we have to have users do the Microsoft patch stuff and then download out stuff. Sheeesh

I find this irrtating myself.

The download at Service Pack 6 for Visual Basic 6.0: Run-Time Redistribution Pack (vbrun60sp6.exe) does not seem to match VBRun60sp6.exe installs Visual Basic 6.0 SP6 run-time files (KB290887) as suggested.

Furthermore running it with /? doesn't list the command line options for manual extraction. Worse yet running it w/o /? ends up installing the darned thing with basically no warning except "needs permission."

This resulted in an MSVBVM60.dll version 6.0.98.2 installed with no opportunity to safely test it. I just hope that this and the others files it installed have not done any serious damage. I may have to go recover the correct versions from another machine and copy them back here now.

The DLL Help Database still doesn't list versions this recent.

Windows 7 Beta ships with MSVBVM60.dll version 6.0.98.12 (just reverified) so I hope 6.0.98.2 isn't another junky, partially broken release like we've seen of late from Microsoft.

The newest merge modules I find are at Merge Modules for Service Pack 6 for Visual Basic 6.0 and Visual C++ 6.0.

The MSVBVM60.dll in these is version 6.0.97.82

Are you sure??? I run that .exe and it does NOT install the 6.0.98.2 version. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290887 says that it gives me version 6.0.97.82 ... and I checked after the install and that (6.0.97.82) is what was on my machine.

To run our apps we need the version 6.0.98.2 and we are having to tell our users to download it from our website. Sheeeeh
