Very old threads should be locked !
As the title says, why it's not done ?
Someone posted by mistake in this thread: http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.p...80#post2116680
I did not even see the date on the thread until Jacob Roman mentioned that it was an old thread....
Those threads should be locked. It does not make any sence to be able to reply for a thread that is THAT old ?

I don't think the age of the thread matters. What if the thread is three years old but an answer was never given?

I completely agree with Dilenger4. I would understand if it was resolved but other than that it shouldn't really matter.

I don't think the person wold still wonder what's the anser for his question after THAT long...
And I'm pretty sure the person either found an anser somewhere else, or lost interent. I really doubt the person still needs the anser.
For me.... after a few weeks, my question is timed-out , I either lost interest, or live with the fact that it cannot be done

Answer. Not anser.
The person can always lock the thread themselves. I do it from time to time if the thread has been resolved and it still gets replies. Used to cut down on the emails when they were instant.

Not only was that thread revived, it was a total change in subject as if he was creating a new thread. The old thread was on "Helping with winsock" and the guy that revived the thread is asking for XP controls.

Re: Very old threads should be locked !
Yea, but in general we are mostly dealing with intelligent people so I don't see any reasons for locking up the thread even if there is a handfull of guys messing arround.

Well, yea, you got a point there RhinoBull...
Hmm... I dit not know you can lock your own threads... (i thought only moderators can do that) I'll have to try that... I don't remember seeing that option though
Or do you mean to "unsubscribe" Dilenger4 ?

Re: Very old threads should be locked !
Only a moderator or administrator can lock a thread. I think he means to mark it as resolved.

No I ment lock. You used to be able to lock a thread you started. I don't see why we wouldn't be able to still do it.

If you encouter situations where an old thread is revived, but the subject changed, you should PM the section mod with the link to that thread.
We can split the new response off onto its own thread (which is where it probably should be), thus sending the old one back to its resting place. I've caught a few of these in ClassicVB, but I'm sure I've also missed some.
