I can see that it is turned off in the ChitChat section. Maybe it is an idea to do that with the test section too?

Re: Reputations
Would there really be a post in the Testing forum worth rating? Hmmm....
Regardless, it is a good suggestion and will be turned off there too.
The idea is to recognize those that help others. Hopefully postitive rating points will be given to those that provide technical help (the focus of this forum) and so that the super helpers will float to the top.

Well that was more or less my point. There is non there. And that is probably why it was shut off in the first place in teh ChitChat section. So it won't be missused.
Well I have one other question. Is there any possibility to actualy check the points a person has?
I can check my own points by trying to give my self points, but what about others. Is it only the green dots? I can't see anything about it in the FAQ either.
Well I can at least see that the member page has it ranked all ready. And it looks like Pirate got the first points. But I can't see his number of points:

One last one..
Is it possible to MAKE people to write a comment for posting positive or negative points. I just found it very irritating to get a negative remark when I tried to help someone. Made me realy feel that I didn't want to help him again if I am not even getting any comment on why.
[Edit] Is it possible to add to the list who gave you the vote too?

I know you would prefer it and I apologize in advance, Brad, for annoying the heck of you but I do not want this option so how would I disable it? Or is it possible that you would do that for me? What's the problem? I just don't get it? Personally, I am not (nor I ever will be) after any points race what so ever ...

The problem is if EVERYONE starts to ask him. That will be like if everyone wanted him to make a costum name with colors. He would have a full time job. So if you don't care about it. Why not just let it be there. And don't care about it. Look at Marty. Even he has it on now.

This is exactly WHY I don't need this - politics, politics, politics ... disgusting as they are ... This new "feature" will irritate people more than you think it may help ... Whoever came up with this idea didn't realize many things I'm afraid ... Sorry if this offence anybody but that's what I feel like at the moment.

Would it be possible to make the comments field a little bit bigger?
If I want to give someone a point I usually have a reason and that reason will be more than the 10-or-so letters that fit in that tiny box
Thanks!
(A bigger box might also make ppl feel like they should really use it...)

I think it still lets you get the feedback (ie. the comment) but just you won't get the points for it.
When your thread has been resolved please edit the original post in the thread ( )
and amend "-[RESOLVED]-" to the end of the title and change the icon to , Thank you.
When posting Code use the [VBCode]Code Here[/VBCode] tags to be able to use the code highlighting.

Re: Reputations
Bulleted comments -
- Anyone can rate a post. If you don't qualify (i.e. don't have enough posts), then no points will be give, but the comment will show up. This allows people to leave feedback, but with no impact on the total because they don't yet qualify
- Only admins can turn of their reputation and I've asked all admins to leave it on.
- If you don't care about reputation and post ratings, then simply ignore it. This really isn't about seeing who has the best reputation, it is about seeing who (on indivdiual average) gives good responses. A few negative ratings are likely to happen, but if you are helpful, your overall rating should be positive.
- If someone gives one of your posts a negative rating and you think it is *truly* unfair, let an admin know. Negative reputations done with no basis will be looked into if reported. People taking such actions could have their accounts suspended. In other words, we take ratings seriously.
- Rating posts/reputations is not a new concept. I've been working with it within vBulletin on CodeGuru for several months. I also worked with it for a couple of years on CodeGuru before we switched to vBulletin. We've seen and are aware of many of the issues. Give time for ratings to build up. In six months or a year, the reputation ratings will seem different because there will be a build up of ratings.
- I've gotten comments about things that don't deserve negative ratings that could get them. This forum has a lot of sarcastic posts as well as responses telling people to "get a clue". Sarcasm is often read wrong and telling someone to get a clue (whether they need to or not) is never really polite. Don't be surprised if those types of posts get rated negatively. Make sure it is clear if your posts are sarcasm, etc.
- There are a few people worried about getting negative reputations. The easy answer is to watch what you post. After all, when you post something, it never really goes away.
If I missed responding to a comment, let me know.
Brad!

Re: Reputations
I think that there should be a sticky asking people to rate the threads that they read. If it is something helpful, then it should be rated as such. If someone helps solve a problem, then they should get a good comment. You don't have to mention the points, as they're secondary.
Most people will give a postive rating if asked to, but I think that it should be asked of everyone.

Re: Reputations
The two missed answers....
- Right now it is not possible (from what I've seen) to force a comment to be entered. This is something when can look into.
- Right now the setting to show who posted a post rating (reputation) is turned off. This may be turned on in the future if we find people abusing things. Admins can see who rated a post, so if you believe there is an unjust post, feel you can contact us and we can look into it. Be aware, however, that everyone is entitled to an opinion, so negative reputation points will happen. If you are helpful, however, then the few negative you might get will be overshadowed by the positive.
