What does "\??\" mean??????

?? = two single character wildcards - ie any two valid path characters.

The string is \??\c:\pathname\filename !\??\c:\pathname\filename

When I put a file in the "c:\temp" directory to be renamed on
boot up, it gets blown away but not renamed to any other directory.

I'd appreciate any help........
