    Red face National IQ test

Did anyone take part in the national IQ test the other day?

Despite being somewhat foggy brained and drunk, I scored 119.

Suffice to say, the memory test is where I fell down...

Is there an AGE-IQ factor? for example, if you're 30, you should have a certain average IQ? Or is IQ just IQ for all ages?

    There are five age bands (16-19, 20-34, 35-54, 55-69, 70+).

They said on TV that they had to take account of age otherwise it makes all old people look thick.

The average IQ is 100. A score between 90 and 110 indicates average intelligence; over 110 points is in the highest 25%, meanwhile anyone with an IQ of 130 or above can consider themselves in the top 2% of the population.

Well, you must be some sort of god damn genius then!

    ~ I suppose it's a lot easier to get a high IQ when you're in the 70+ category! ~

Wow... I can't believe this was a prime time hit.

Course, it is the morbid curiousity hardwired in humans. When I have the free time to answer 70 multiple choice questions, I will. Heck, if a Brit can get 119, then an American should be able to get 131.

I'm surprised that they aren't asking for some demographics though, to get a feel for what factors may affect the scores.

Well, they're asking all the important things like gender, astrological star sign, region and favourite football team.

What more do they need to know?

Exactly. I only got three questions right, but the fact I remembered my own name obviously went down well with them.

    That was fun.

Although it appears my memory and ability to add and subtract numbers has gone right down the toilet. Multiplication and feats of strength appear okay though.

142, but I really detest that test for a number of reasons:

    1) Each question has a forced time. Most tests allow you to take the test at any speed as long it is not OVER a certain amount of time.

Example: They give you 15 seconds to answer a question and it takes you 3 seconds, you have to SIT THERE for 12 seconds. AAaaaarrrrggggghhhhh the pain, the pain, make it stop. Sorry.

    2) How fast you answer the test is suposed to be a factor in IQ tests. It appears to not be so in that one.

    3) The example questions did not look like example questions. I kept trying to click the answer and cursed at the test a few times until I realized I was clicking on an example. They need to make it green or something.

    4) The test covered a broad range, but has too few questions in each category.

    5) The test is very heavily math and perception based. These are only a few of the traits of IQ.

    6) The test is flash based. I was honest with it and didn't cheat, but I suspect someone could STOP or REWIND. Perhaps I will look again.

    7) They don't account for the fact that people outside the country could be taking the test and they classified me as some city in the right section of the country map they have. (Which is wrong since I am in Arizona of the USA)

    8) Since it is not really timed, they should give you the option to pause between test sets.

    9) They should also let you know how many questions there are. I almost quit at question 70 because I had to leave home, but I delayed and finished the test at about 80 questions.

That was part of the test. Each time you click it, your score is lowered by a point.

I think I failed a basic part of the test when I did it in front of the TV - didn't have a copy of the Radio Times so I just jotted down the answers on a scrap of paper.

I'd missed the fundamental fact that there weren't five questions in EVERY section, and got all my answers out of step
