    'Open With' program list

    OS - Win98
I have a weird item in my 'Open With' program list. The first program in the list has a generic exe icon, and it has no name. Well, either no name or a name with all spaces. When I try to open a file with it, explorer pops up, open to C:\. Anyone know what this is? Is it part of the OS or something?

Where is this list? In the registry I figure... can someone tell me how to find out about this mystery exe?

I don't have it so it is probably safe to delete.
What is the answer to this question?

I would delete it, but I can't find it! I've done some more fiddling and found a registry entry at
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explore\doc find spec mru with a value of the exe in question. It's name is 6 spaces. ______.exe

Thumb - the source of the armaggedon virus.

That is my real answer. Have you not heard about the armaggedon virus? Just wait 4 days and see if your hard drive still has anything on it.

I'm sorry I didn't take you seriously. I didn't detect even a hint of sincerity after reading your nonchalant response. I figured you were just mocking me or trying to scare me. I mistakenly expected some kind of concern from someone offering help. Thanks anyway.

This situation is not new. I've had that entry in my 'Open With' list for several months now. I just finally decided to ask someone about it. I keep my anti-virus software updated, so if it were a well-known virus it surely would have been detected by now.

If anyone has an idea about this, please let me know. It would be useful to know where each list item is stored in the registry, along with the path to the executable itself.
