Pixies question
In my Nirvana thread some people said that Nirvana borrowed a lot from Pixies. Well, I downloaded a lot of Pixies music, and i just don't see the Nirvana in it ?
It does remind me a LOT of weezer though, it sounds almost exactly like them infact.

It's the influence thing sail.
Put Gauge away or Bone Machine next to Nirvana's Teen Spirit and you'll clearly see the similarities in song structure : soft/loud, huge riffs, singing style etc.
They had an awkward, aggressive, seething and sometimes poppy nature.
Nirvana's music sounds different because they used heavier material they borrowed from Melvins, Sonic Youth and a whole host of hard rock/heavy metal bands.
Nirvana's uniqueness lies in the fact that Cobain was such a good song writer and could fuse the above elements into a catchy, modern hell of a noise.
Besides, Cobain himself called them often his greatest influence
