i have a simple chat programme on 2 computers using the winsock control, using NE 2000 compatable network cards
The control is set as a udp protacol and i know the line of code which is trying to dial is
winsock1.senddata text1.text
1 computer has no internet access and the control works fine from that end. The other computer has internet access, when i try to send a message from this computer i get the dial up connection. i cancel this connection and all is well until the chat program is re started
any ideas what is wrong?

Check your Internet Explorer settings (Tools->Options->Connections). Set it to "Never dial a connection". This may not solve it all, but will probably help.

Are they both on a network?
Thats the only way i can see a chat program working form one computer that is on the net to another computer that is not on the net...but then again they would be both on the net if it's a newtork...
Anymore info?

Even if they're both on a network, they won't automatically both have internet access. ICS only came in with Win98SE and is a b*tch to get working. In fact, I can't use it at home because it insists on DCHP for the network addresses, when I want mine constant, so that my firewall and Java stuff works.
