    Unhappy Speed Problem

Is there any way i can boost my modem. I have a cable modem and i mean the pages load faster and people upload fast from me, but my own downloads are most of the time shot. Is it just that the other persons bandwith is bad?

What's the max download speed? Find out from your cable provider.

Do you have another computer or computers on the network?

But normally my downloads go from .02 kb/s to 7 kb/s.

    Downloads from where?

If it's from Kazaa/WinMX/etc you need to check your ping times. When I got cable installed I used Napster and the cable guy was still there setting up a couple of last minute things, I asked him why my DL speeds were so slow. He said it's because I wasn't PINGING the servers I downloaded from. So I started pinging and I got downloads that were really fast (sometimes 300k/sec) as I immediately found the fastest location (lower ping is better)

I didn't realize my mistake on dialup since i usually ended up getting on a server that would max out my paltry 5kb/sec of bandwidth anyway.

    It's food for thought

Try downloading from something OTHER than Kazaa

Microsoft.com has some really fast servers, I often get 300 or 400k...hey, good excuse to get the latest updates
