Question Why don't American's play snooker?

Do they just not like the game or something?

Actually, the question is: Why do you play snooker? It's just as exciting as golf. Yawn

Snooker's very exciting to watch! You can see exactly what's going on, unlike golf.

Anyway, if it's as exciting as golf, you'd think it'd be very popular indeed in America.

Snooker's only popular here because someone at the BBC had the bright idea to use it to promote colour TV back in 1969.

I like snooker, yeah it's exciting at times, like the final of this year's World Championship. But let's face it, it's pretty boring most of the time.

I much prefer playing and watching 9-Ball (American) Pool.

    You're starting to scare me.

Pool, snooker, chess and cricket ... there's another one.

I wonder why there's such a difference in choice of sports across the Atlantic. I guess sports evolves as you go west...

Well, I've never watched a professional game but as for playing it, yes I much prefer it because you don't have to have much skill to play it.

Try playing snooker when you think you've mastered pool and see how crap you really are.

OK, sometimes snooker can get long and drawn out into strategy exchanges but that's because there's so much more to the game of snooker than to pool.

And I defy anyone to get bored watching people like Ronnie O'Sullivan or Jimi White play.

America have no interest in playing the same sports that the rest of the world plays (with the exception of Tennis). They just invent their own and have done with it!

hmm, because baseball and american footy are really popular!

Episode of the Simpsons when Homer gives up beer for a month: he goes to a football match, sits and watches whilst everyone else is chugging back the beer, then says "I never realised how boring this game was"

Sounds like you brits are still sore about that little tiff we all had
about 200 years ago! I've played snooker a couple of times and
I gotta tell you, with a 12 pack of watered down tasteless american
piss beer in your gut, you much rather prefer the american
version 9 ball or a simple game of 8 ball.
    Merry Christmas

Come on Simon! Enough with this Brit superiority rubbish! What does it matter if we "invent" our own sports?! No one asks you to play them. Do we have to play snooker just because you do? NO. Do you have to play pool because we do? NO. Do we have to spell everything the way you do? NO. We are two different countries. Get over it!

Well, I've got to admit, when you've had a few beers and you just want to knock a few balls around without thinking too much, pool's your game.

    But, snooker's a real game isn't it?

I love it and can't wait for the next televised tournament.

Woah! Who got out of the wrong side of bed this morning?

If you read back you'll find out why I posted what I did and it was in response to Mendhak's comment:
I wonder why there's such a difference in choice of sports across the Atlantic. I guess sports evolves as you go west...
Anyway, this is just an innocent question about why American's don't seem to like to play/watch snooker.

I'm not suggesting there's anything wrong in inventing your own sports or even not playing the sports we play. I just want to know why?

so how does a disagreement over sport go back to this?

sounds like you're the ones who need to get over it; everybody else has.

I second this comment. After a few beers the thought process will quickly fade.

Ah, but if you're going to drink a decent ale, you're going to have to drink it "piss warm"!

If you're going to just chill the taste out of it, you might as well stick to lager!

It's the "Chongo" part I have a problem with. I keep what ale I can get my hands on down in the basement/cellar.

Ahhh, the two best players in the world (Jimmy being no.1 of course )

Snooker's a much better game than pool. More skill than football, more excitement than ice hockey, more glory than rugby and more entertainment than female mud-wrestling. A great game!

Well, here is a dumb question for you...

I'm a typical American southerner who loves football. I have one answer for your question that I haven't seen yet. What is snooker?

I'm just curious to find out why American's don't play snooker.

If it's so obvious that it's a dumb question, then I'm sorry! It's not obvious to me.
