Complete motherboard set?

Does anyone know where i can purchase a motherboard complete with with a processor. With memeory or without is ok. I looked on CDW's site and all they carry is evergreen processors and no complete sets. I fugured that it would be better in the long run to purchase a new one since the motherboard that i currently have can only handle a max of 392Mb of memory. Plus i would like to switch over to DDR-SDRAM instead of running SDRAM.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Im not too sure if i want to go the Intel or AMD route. Right now im running a PII 400Mhz so i would assume anything above 1Ghz would probably be significantly faster. What would your recommendaitions be?

Since the bulk of any system seems to be in the mother board since is carries the processor and the memory. Ill probably want to spend in the $400- $600 range. I still want to get a new HD also so ill have to look for somthing within that range.

Not exactly all the time expensive...

the 2100 is a real waste of money since the XP2000 is a lot cheaper

Pair them up with any Socket A board

I really like Newegg for parts havent' heard of the other store. Compare the prices..

the kt266a or kt333

ull also need a heatsink + fan...go for a thermalright ax-7, and any 80mm fan will do

Well here's the lowdown

If you really want a well cooled system get a Thermalright AX7 with an 80mm fan of your choice and a tube of Arctic Silver 3 which I can link you to instructions of. Should run you about $45. It'll also help you with overclocking.

If you just want something that'll boot up, get an Athlon XP 1800. It comes with a retail cooler. It's a rather sucky one, but it works...

As for chipsets, KT333 if you are overclocking, KT266a if you aren't.

Cool, thanks for the tech help guys. Ill be making the purchase next week as soon as i get paid.

I would assume that the Arctic Silver 3 is an adhesive to attach a heatsink to the processor.

Arctic Silver is a conductive material between the heatsink and processor, it's not an adhesive of any kind, although there is an adhesive AS epoxy for GPU coolers and such.

Basically spread a thin layer of AS3 on top of the CPU, put the heatsink/fan on. There's a bit more to it than that though, like a lint-free cloth..etc.

When you're ready to purchase come back to us with a parts list
