Laptop brands?
I'm in the market for a cheap laptop.
will be used for wordprocessing, getting email on the run,
and some various number crunching activites.
no games, no multimedia, just basic office duties.
I'm trying to stay around $1000 maybe $1200.
does anyone have any brand suggestions?
Dells(of course) and it looks like toshibas are up there...
I know how to spec out a desktop (I just read JB's (justin is it?) posts),
but what should I look for, for a notebook?
I've read compter shoppers suggestions, but I just don't trust
those guys. hehe.
P.s., has anyone ever seen/had a gateway laptop? just curious.

WinBook is cheap but their reliability is questionable...Comcrap is cheap for a reason.

Dell and Toshiba are good, but are not always cheap
Sony aren't too bad

The gateway laptops are reasonably priced and
seem much more configurable than other brands...
we've got a Gateway country right down the road,
I think I"ll check them out.
Anyone got a gateway laptop?

My company has Dells, Winbooks, and Toshibas - and I've only seen problems with the Toshibas.

Get these: Mozilla Opera OpenBSD
I have books for sale: "MCSD in a Nutshell" and "VB Distributed Exam Cram" - PM me for details. Will also trade for a decent ATX Pentium 2 MB/CPU/RAM combo.
