My sights are set on the Toshiba Satellite 3005-S307. CompUSA is selling it for the best price: $1499.

You won't find a really good Dell for under $1600, especially considering shipping.

Yes, faster actually...1.2 will eat a 1.6 P4 for breakfast
I have a thing about Sony notebooks, mine blew some major ass...
Filburt: Dell has far more full featured notebooks and cheaper ones also

Toshiba does look like the most economic.
Cant find a Dell <$1600 with Pentium and DVD / CD RW ...
