what are the differences among various Windows versions

Can anyone please explain what are the differences among various Windows versions namely - 95, 98, NT, 2000, ME, XP etc.?

How do I know what is the best version for me?

Basically, it goes in Chronological order....

    95 is old and sucks...

    NT is also outdated....

    ME sucks....

98 is still widely used, but not the best choice....

If presented with a choice of the above or XP, take XP.... It's their newest, but isn't perfect yet....

The vast majority of people currently agree that Win2k is the best OS for most purpouses...

    Hope this helps....

that's a big question as you can't get 95 anymore and they stopped supporting NT, so it all depends on what you want.

Gaming use win98 as some games don't work on 2000

    the biggest difference is security.

    Windows has two basic kernels:

    the 9x kernel in 95/98/98SE/ME

the NT kernel in NT/2000/XP .. 2000 is NT5 and XP is NT 5.1(?).

    Get these: Mozilla Opera OpenBSD
I have books for sale: "MCSD in a Nutshell" and "VB Distributed Exam Cram" - PM me for details. Will also trade for a decent ATX Pentium 2 MB/CPU/RAM combo.

2000 is my first choice. Its still Windows, instead of Mac OS...Its more of a functional OS, instead of a pretty home user one =).

    The basic answer:
    Win2k rocks...the rest don't.

Although I have never used XP.
What is the answer to this question?
