I always thought of a pivot table similiar to a Hierarchy Grid where like items are merged and/or collapsable.

My second post somewhat answered my first post.

A pivot table is basically an organized list of data such as a table into a visualize report. I don't think it has anything to do with merging data together. That is what I got from gathering and searching about pivot table.
