    Whisky

Without going for the stupidly over-the-top ones (I don't care how much Simon might love food and drink; I for one am not going to pay £200 for a bottle of anything), I'd go for the three main Glens:
    Glenlivet
    Glenmorangie
    ...and if all else fails...
    Glenfiddich.

None of that nasty stuff with an extraneous "e" in the name.

There are quite a few lovely regional ones too, but I'm damned if I can remember the names.

I'll start it off with some real ale contributions:
    .....
    [Spirits
    • Jack Daniels - Bourbon whisky, USA
    • Southern Comfort - Whisky liquer, USA
    • Sake - Japan
Jack Daniels is not burbon whiskey. It has rice as one of the ingredients. This disqualifies it from being burbon. Unless it has a green label which is Jack Danies Rye wiskey, They always put it in the burbon section for some reason. If you like black label jack daniels try Gentelmens Jack, It's much smoother and has the same taste as the black label jack daniels. Not sure if they sell it in Europe though.

Hey, I don't believe in paying silly prices for food or drink. In my opinion, good value for money is as important as the quality.
Everything I say is either loose interpretation of dubious facts or idle speculation rooted in irrational sentiment.

Si did not see you down the diet centre yesterday, we had your special Wombles mat ready for you as well. Now put that pint of apple cider down, you know it goes straight to your hips....

Thank you Simon for bringing a bit of sanity to the forum.

Well there is Theakstons Old Peculiar to add to your list. Not very good for excessive consumption though as its a wee bit strong.

Milton's Caligula is good for winter although strong 9% +

The Macallan 10 Year Old Single Malt Whisky. [The 18 is better but pricey].
Laphroaig 15 year old (43%) is probably my favourite Islay (mayby ID can tell us more!) and of course Glenmorangie.

As for wine - I'm on the lookout for coteaux champenois next time I'm in France. Still Bollinger would be very tasty with Langoustine though. Especially the "Special Cuvée".

On the other hand I've had a very good drop of peasent brewed Retsina probably no more than a few weeks old and still 'live'

Ahh the simple things in life

Add some Chimay Blue Cap to the list too

No wonder those Trappist's don't say anything
