VB 6 & Win 95 trouble!
Ok, for some reason on the 486 66 DX computer that I'm setting up in my garage for this summer, I'm having some very weird problems. I booted up from a boot disk, formatted the hard drive, and then did a full install of Win 95 w/ minimal options. So I'm starting from a clean slate now. Then I d/led the Windows Media Player 6.4 for Win 95 & NT. I installed it on the 486. Then I ran the installation program I made for MY program w/ package and deployment wizard. It says it has to update the system files and asks me to restart the system and run setup again. So I did this. Everything installs fine except It gives an error saying that it could not register "MSDXM.ocx". Now when I try to run Windows Media Player or My program I get the this Error:
"The MSDXM.OCX file is linked to missing export Shell32.dll: ExtractIconExW."
Then I get another error message that says a device is not connected to the system or something like that.
What's going on here? What's wrong with my Shell32.dll file? I just did a full install, and why won't it register MSDXM.ocx? It works fine on my Win XP and Win 98 systems. Any help with this is extremely appreciated.

yeah.......
Yeah, 486 sucks, but I already have it, and all I'm doing is installing mediaplayer and my program that is an mp3 playlister thing. I'm running the soundcard into the tape monitor input on stereo receiver, which will power the new pair of outdoor Advent speakers around my pool! I want to use MP3 so playlisting is easy, and there is not need to burn cdmixes.

98?
I don't have a copy of Win 98, and plus win 95 takes up less space. I have ME, but I doubt it would run on a 486. Plus ME sucks anyway. What a P.O.S.! Win 98, 2000 pro, or XP is all that's good.

you use the word suck with a lot of passion.
if you're using a 486, might as well go for linux?

ME
I've always had lots of problems with Win ME. I bought the upgrade (probably my first mistake!) to upgrade from Win 98. After about a week later, and the fact that I couldn't properly shutdown my system, and my standby didn't work, I went back to 98. Now I have XP and it is great. Pretty much the same as 2000 Pro.

I agree ME (i wont say sucks), was horrible... Though I personally only installed it to take a look around, and had no problems. I have heard from quite a few people.. namely my son whos in the "sucks" opinion.
