I won't be doing Firewire stuff on here...I've got my desktop machine for vid editing, and a wired network for file transfers.

Was referring to external storage like FireWire hard drives...

i don't have a firewire or a USB 2 in mine, i really wouldn't use them i don't have any devices that requre them

You have a desktop, duh, it's easy to open it up and stick a new hard drive or burner in there

Theoretical max for Firewire is 400 mbits/sec, USB2 is 480 mbits/sec, either way that's way faster than IDE if I recall correctly...

400MBits, that's like 50MB/sec
FireWire will always be slower and more expensive than IDE but of course it's portable and it's good for n00bs to scared to open their case

On Macs they suck, I think it's just badly written drivers or just too much overhead. Suppsedly though the iPod transfers files really quickly (5 mins for 2.3 GB), so software probably makes a big difference.
