Ok either free or say under $500....
Need a good photo processing program, that allows chopping of photos, source of light, etc etc....
Any ideas?
So far have read the reviews for Photoshop...
Also best Jet ink photo quality printer..... have no preference for brand
Thanks in advance....

Photochop will be your long and faithful companion, but it retails for $599, unless of course you get an upgrade, academic license, get it at one of those computer trade show things, find it cheap online, etc.

Easier to use doesn't always mean better...
*waits for Linux people to laugh at me*
Example, Easy CD crapper is easier to use than Nero...but guess which one's better...

The Differnce between Photoshop and Paintshop is very marginal. PSP only around 100 bucks.

Eh, you obviously haven't used Photochop for a couple of years...PS is also real easy to use once you've got the basics down, all Adobe programs are like that.

PS is much to compilated then it should be thats for sure. True I have not used it in awhile, but thats because I didnt like it. PSP is much easier and just as functional. I do know that a certain level PS goes beyond PSP, but you dont really need that extra boost unless your a professional graphics artist. And the price of PS is insane.
You could always... *Crack the cardboard*

IMHO Photoshop is without doubt the most superior graphics packae. Period.
However, If you're looking for cheap, PSP is prbly the way to go. Mind you, like Beacon said, Fireworks (free with Dreamweaver) is certainly worth considering.

There is always the Gimp, which is free, and, from what I have seen (just a few minutes screwing around), it is comparable to photoshop. And again, its free.

GiMP...

Because of patent issues with the LZW compression algorithm the installer does not install the ability to save GIF files.
Doesn't seem too promising...
