    Talking Justin's Ultimate Challenge yet!

The Situation: 2 People arguing over 1 PC....
The Solution: 2 People in 2 different rooms with 2 PCs and 1 Internet Connection

How would I do this?? Basicly I want to put my old PC in my sisters room (10 Feet away from mine) and I want to connect it (share it) with my Internet connetion. Is Home Network the same thing or something different?

anyway, as far as I know, I need a hub, and a NIC card for my sisters PC... and maybe some extra cable...

now what do I need to do so I can configure the internet connection on the second PC???

    thanks for any help!

Im not too sure but ill tell you what we did at home. When we got high speed internet, we had to share it between our 4 PCs. So we got a 5 port router. We hooked up the 4 PCs, and the DSL modem to the router, and since XP essentially automates network setups, we just set a few things up and we were all set.
You just proved that sig advertisements work.

You dont have to buy a router. Stick 2 NIC cards in one computer, and hook one of them to your cable/whatever modem, and the other to the other computer (with whatever kind of cable). Then configure the OS for internet connection sharing (preferably with DHCP). Then just configure the other computer for DHCP, and you should be rolling.

That is how I did it, only I put a 24 port switch in there to connect more then 2 computers together =). In my case, its one NIC to the cable modem, the other to the switch. All the other computers go to the switch.

The problem we had with that setup (we did that before we got high speed) was that in order to the other guy to have an internet connection, my computer had to be on, and connected. And my brother tends to go on late at night when i usually sleep...so it became a problem. Thats why we got the router. Now i just leave the modem on all the time and all the PCs can have a connection independant of each other.

get a 2 or 3 port cable/DSL router, hook up the cable modem to it. get a big box of CAT5 cable and get one of those little things that makes connections at the end. Run it through the walls and presto, your done

old 486's make GREAT routers, since they don't generate alot of heat they don't have many fans, just put like 4 nic's in them.
