Running a program from the net

Hi,

I have a program that I have installed on the network. I want to direct people to this program from my Intranet site. However, when the person clicks the hyperlink to the exe, I would like the program to run straight away without asking if they want to open it or save it. Does anyone know how to do this?

Hi,

It would be huge security risk to allow webservers to run programs without asking.

You could try creating an Active X control, you only have the click yes the first time you are asking.

i'm not an expert on the topic, but way too mant people ask this question. "punkpie_uk" sounds like he knows a bit more about this than me, but i am sure it is the MIME settings that control how a browser handles different file extentions differently. it sounds like you have access to the machines handling the download end so the MIME settings shouldnt be a problem to get access to if i am correct in saying what i have.

what punkpie said is basically correct. you would have to go to every users machine and say "run from site" and not download it.

but this will be set for all programs that the user downloads. I don't recomend this at all as it is easy to instll virus's that way.
