Can you fry memory by scanning it???
hey,
i'm looking for Crucial DDR memory and i asked that guy for some pictures of the RAM he's got. He scanned the stick with scanner and now he tells me that the stick doesn't work.
is that even possible? i mean, it's just the light...
please let me know!

Isn't it ironic that this question got more replies in chit-chat than in here?

well in theory it shouldn't, but if the guy was trying to sell it why would he do that and then tell you it doesn't work?
the only thing I can say is if when he put the memory on the glass to get scanned that it was shocked from static electricity.

sorry, yeah. I forget this forums adds to post count and I don't want to be considered a spammer
I personally wouldnt put memory in a scanner for fear of scratching the scanner. But I'm just weird. Memory's pretty cheap at the moment, but you gotta be careful. Bear in mind that a static shock from your bare hands can screw up components (ie touch a radiator before you start fiddling under the hood / wear one of the funny cuff things), putting stuff in a scanner is definitely going to pose a risk. Good to hear the problem wasn;t permanent.

What still has me baffled is why did he scan it in the first place, jez a memory stick just ain't that interesting.
