    Jesus & genetics???

I recently saw a SciFi channel episode about the cloning of Jesus using genetic material from the Shroud of Turin. It got me thinking about the Virgin Birth story in the Christian part of the Bible.

Since Jesus did not have an earthy father, was he genetically a haploid? Id est: Did he have half the normal amount of genetic material like a sperm cell or an unfertilized ovum cell?

Since genetic material provides the master plan for the construction of a living creature, one wonders if the powers attributed to Jesus were encoded in his DNA. If so, could modern genetic engineering create a person with such powers? Are these abilities scattered around the gene pool waiting for chance to combine them? Might this be the mechanism behind the Second Coming?

If Jesus had the normal amount of genetic material, half came from the Holy Ghost and half from his mother. His mother, Mary, was described as not an unusual woman. Were his powers encoded on the Y chromosome? Since there is not much genetic material on the Y chromosome, it is likely that the rest of the DNA from the spiritual father had the master plan for his abilities. Can the encoding of god on earth be inherent in half the genetic material of a human being?

Is there any official church position of the genetics of Jesus?

Has anybody attempted to update theology to include consideration of modern knowledge of genetics?

Do ghosts HAVE genetic material? Last time I checked the fairy
dust from the New Agers, a ghost was particle wave of emotive
    processes stuck in do loop.

Maybe there was something genetically wrong with Mary and she
had more than her share of genetic material. My understanding
is that there is quite a bit of redundancy, so if she had maybe
10% more than normal, that would be enough????

I'll ask the squirrels tonite. Stay tuned children.

    Thumbs down

I read an article about that - That is the most retarded thing I've ever heard! First of all, they don't even know if the shroud is even real - It's possible that it was made by an artist.

    Some people's children, man. ???

Nah, the shroud of Turin is a real shroud. Made of real cloth, real
old. Whether or not it is shroud of CHRIST is another question.

Well, there it is. The Holy Ghosts genetic makeup is Vermillion,
Red Ochre and collagen....probably from parchment.

I'm sure the god-squad will complain that this is another of gods practical jokes meant to confuse us (like the dinosaurs) and the shroud really is 2,000 years old.

    God, what a joker.

Well, I'm gonna give a serious answer. I didn't read through the other posts, but many of them didn't look too serious as I scanned through.

The powers Jesus had was not in his genetic makeup. This is proven by the fact that he, on at least one occasion, sent out his disciples to preach around, and heal people while they were at it.

Also, there's a case in the bible where Paul, well after Jesus died, brought someone back to life.

These powers come from God's holy spirit (aka holy ghost or whatever you like to call it), which actually isn't really a living entity.

On a more general note, if faith can be explained by science, then it is no longer a faith, as it has been proven. Faith means beleiving in something that cannot be proven.

If Jesus himself was the son of god, then technically they would have some of God's DNA...but if the secret to his power resides there, then god is nothing more than a technologically advanced being.

If God created everything, including DNA, then logic would dictate that he doesn't actually have any DNA himself.

I would guess that Jesus' genes and DNA were designed from scratch. I wonder if he was genetically related to Mary, because Jesus was a "perfect" man. Everyone else is "imperfect" because of sin that was passed down from parent to child. If Jesus didn't inherit this imperfection, that probably means he didn't get any genes from Mary, and that she only carried him.
