    Red face Cookies

    Does anyone know the percentage of internet users who have disabled cookies? I've started recording this data and it looks quite high. It's nice that users don't want cookies on their machines but how do they except site developers to keep track of there preferences? These are the same people who complain that the website looks different every time they visit a site.

    I have to say i agree with you totally, but the problem is a lot of the adult sites and advertising sites are abusing it big time, so user are forced to disable it sometimes.

    Just clicked on Seb's signature, he is recording user stats on his site. It is intersting to see that according to his stat 92% has cookie enabled and 0% has it disabled. I guess one possible reason might be most people from this forum are clicking on the link, and as we are developers so most of us will have cookie enabled anyway.

    Well, the mainstream media has generally presented cookies like malicious spyware or invasion of privacy to "normal" people.

    i read in an artical in the paper a while ago and it was about the protection of internet user, any way it was saying that the web companys should not use cookies and should use other mnethods to get to know there customers. plus i have just got iexplorer6 and theres even a lil bit which tells you when cookies are being written? i dont understand why they cant do any damage?

    people are paranoid.....

    a little unknown fact is session cookies.(at least w/ the developers i know....)
    the user can turn them off and the developer can no longer use session variables.

    you can use IP address to maintain state or even the MAC address of the user. this requires more work or course.....
