    Memory Question?

Why does 128 MB of 100 MHZ SDRAM cost more than PC 133 ram of the same size? I have 128 SDRAM in my HP Pavilion w/ 750 Athalon, and want to add another 128 mb stick. I can't find one for under $30, even on Ebay! Yet PC 133 is only like $12 on ebay (I know, my friend bought some). I have to use either 66 mhz or 100 mhz in my system. I want to add more memory since I'm installing Win XP as well. Computer manufacturers suck, my friend can't even use the memory he bought because he has a compaq and you have to use THEIR memory!

You can just get PC133 RAM and it'll work fine...did you try the memory selector at Crucial.com?

Agree 100% on this one; this is why I generally try to avoid big-name PC manufacturers when possible. I build my own and recommend the same to everyone, for those who can't, I recommend Falcon Northwest.

Surely Compaq just use rebranded standard memory and just tell you to use theirs? It seems a bit silly for them to make the computer incompatible with any memory not bought from them.

actually Harry that is correct. Compaq has to use compaq memory. seems wierd but it is the truth. even the compaq 350Mhz machines memory will not work in a 1gig machine or a 733Mhz. and they both are DIMM modules.

Man, that sucks. Well Compaq can shove it up their ass for all I care. That's a really sucky way to make a computer.

Yep. It's all to get MORE money for them, since they're just gonna charge you 2x as much for a stick of RAM.

Compaq can blow me, their laptops...ugh, I'd never buy another
