Cool Whatever happened to Matrox anyways? They used to kick everyone's behinds in 2D graphics cards.
You just proved that sig advertisements work.

They should be emerging with a G800 card which does good 3-D as well as superior 2-D.

Hopefully they won't lie about their releases like Bitboys

this might sound stupid, but what exactly does a 2d graphics card do? or should i say, what is it good for?

Video editing, DVD, graphic design...at high resolutions some NVIDIA cards turn up funny

NVIDIA has the worst 2-D quality, Matrox has the best, and ATI is in the middle.

So 2d cards can out-do 3d cards in that respect?

Also, NVidia cards cost a lot more than ATI's cards. I'll stick with ATI. Thats...until i'm rich of course...

Well all cards today do 2-D and 3-D..just that some do 3-D better than others and some do 2-D better than others

Matroxes are not good at 3-D but they are great at 2-D, teh inverse applies for NVIDIA in most cases

most people value 3-D more but some graphics pros value 2-D more

That's why I like ATI cards, great balance between great 3-D performance, and also great 2-D quality, and 3-D image quality.

Indeed, the Radeon 8500 pwnz a Ti200 for the same price

I have a Visiontek GeForce3 (actually it's a Visiontek GeForce3 Ti200 but it is flashed to a GeForce3 BIOS) only because it was on sale.

Yep the 7500 is pretty decent for the price. My friend got a 7500 AIW and he loves it. (7500 AIW is clocked lower than the regular 7500, as is the case with 8500 vs 8500DV)'

By the time you do that however, the 8500 will be down in price because the 8800s will be out soon

The 7500 is fast enough, but the 8500 has drastically improved drivers and image quality, and also has the pixel/vertex shaders that will be common in next-gen games like Doom 3 and Unreal2.

I am looking forward to a few games, Unreal 2, Warcraft III and Never Winter Nights and Final Fantasy 11 on PC.

To keep this harware related, should I wait abit till the Radeon 8800 comes out so I can pick up a 8500 at a lower price?

It would have a hard time dropping anymore than it has. Maybe a $20 or $30 price drop, MAYBE. But it's alerady so low priced now (well, relatively low priced).

I'd assume so. Not by much though. Hopefully they will discontinue that Radeon 7000 once and for all and move the 7500 into low-end pricing
