I ran the personal edition once, I think it was 5.

It was a really cool and Unix-esque OS, I love the fake taskbar thing they made Be aware that BeOS is dead though and there's no official support for it anymore.

I used the Personal Edition once. Even when Be was still in business, this sucker had less support than Linux.

A multimedia OS with no available shockwave plugin, no 1394 support, or support for major MP3 players, etc?? give me a break...
    I'm bringing geeky back...

it's a good OS, about the only thing i could do in it though is run a notepad because it didn't support my NIC card. i have heard that it is very stable, but i guess that doesn't really matter, since Be's future, well, doesn't exist.

BEOS was good but lack of support kiled it. It did have MP3 support but required a seperate program to do it. Unlike Microsoft, it did not have everything installed as standard. If you won't ever play music or video on your PC, why have support built in and taking up resources?

I used it in the early days and found it very fast and took up very little resources. The applications that were made for it left a lot to be desired but again, it was early days and nobody put very much effort into user friendly applications. Had it got the support it deserved, there would have been a lot more interrfaces that resembled the ones we see regularly in Windows.

    i use beos ..

the pe is 500mb (virtual partition) (the full can take less if u decide 2 place it in an existing partiton), and u can shove apps in the virtual partition aswell
..it does have built in mp3 support and u can download a shockwave plugin 4 it

    The Good:
    Imposible 2 crash
    great compatiablity (few drivers required)
totally pnp (if u dissable u're floppy in the bios beos will still detect it)
    virtual partition options
runs div X better (when u download the plugin)

    The Bad
    Lacked support

I have managed to crash BeOS a few times. It is difficult but can be done.
