"Program too big to fit in memory"

I am trying to install VS.Net (student version) on Window XP but it is giving me that message from the command prompt.

I also tried to install it on Window Mellenium and still gave me the same message.

Both operating system is clean from previous version of VS.Net. In other words, I have never installed VS.Net on either one.

I had no problems installing the Beta 2 version on Window 2000 Professional a couple of months ago.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks for your reply Kovan.

How come you can't install it on Window Me?

I have Window XP Professional. I know for sure it can be install because my friend installed it on XP already.

You copied all 4 cd to your hard drive? Can you list the step that you did for me?

Did you get this error too? "Program too big to fit in memory" If you ran it from the cd and just double clicked on setup.exe, a dos window will flash and close, but if you run setup.exe from the comand prompt, it will list this error.

    Thanks

I had a similar problem like that when I was trying to install VS6 on a win2000 box.

This is how I solved the problem.

I restarted the computer, after everything was loaded I opened the task manager and close all the processes that could be closed including explorer.

Then I click on file|new task (run) and browse to the installation disk.

    Thanks solved my problem

    hope that helps.

no i was getting a access memory violation
here is how i did it

    made 2 directories

    Main and Disc5

in the main, i copied all 4 disc content (start with 1 to 4) and say yes when it asks you that there is same directory in destination (dont worry it wont override anything)
then put disc 5 in Disc5 directory
    run disk5
then run the setup for .net
