This is gonna be hardware related
If you want to go ahead and get an ATI Radeon 7500 or 8500 video card. Not only do they have great 3-D graphics but they are superior for DVD playback.
Your choice.

Actually it is a hardware issue. No matter what DVD program he gets it's not going to help him.
I had a P2 350 that ran DVDs just fine but it had a hardware decoder board.

Part of the problem may also be with your K6-2, which preceded DVD's somewhat....I may be wrong on this, but I think that this, as well as your Video card is causing the problem....

Yeah watching DVD's on a substandard
system can be a horror show. I have a
pII 400Mhz running 64Mb Ram off of a
3dfx Voodoo Banshee1. The playback
isnt too bad. A little choppy at times
though. The problem is that when using
the default decoder that comes with the
dvd's (InterActual) somtimes i get a CSS
error. What ever that is.

One of the marketing things for the Pentium II was that it was good for DVDs...

yeah, turn off all programs that are running in the background. might not help much but it is a shot if you don't upgrade.
and stay off-line and away from the porn sites...
