ADSL Modem Problem

Hello Everyone,
I got a problem installing my ADSL Modem (Alcatel Speed Touch USB). When i plug in the modem[after installing the driver], windows detects the Modem, and tells me installing the modem, after that it gives me Code 10 saying the Device Can not start in the Device Manger.

Any idea why you get this error. I have tried it boht in Win2k and XP with exactly the same problem. Do you think the modem is busted or do u think its Driver Problem.

My best advice is to get a non-USB modem.

If that isn't possible, try updating your drivers. is it hooked up to a hub perhaps?

Thanks Justin for your reply, the thing is that i got the modem as a part of a package(BT Broadband Home 500 Plug & GO) and they only offere this USB modem. I have tried calling the technical support but those guys dont know anything, anyone in this forum knows more then them . They are just passing me from one person to another .

Just getting fed up, thinking of just buying one for myself. I am supposed to get my line activated on monday but i have no modem !!

I guess people in UK will know what i am talking about, BT is just going down the drain.


Anyway enough moaning, do you think its a driver problem or the modem got damaged while arriving by post. What Does Code 10 mean? And my modem is not connected to my HUB.

Apparently this modem draws more than 500mA from the USB ports on your board, which causes major problems. So actually, hooking it up to a USB hub is exactly what you should try.

Also make sure it is an externally powered USB hub.

Yes thats what one of the technical guy mentioned, and i read it on the FAQ you posted. I tried it in my laptop to with the same result, so dont know where is the problem.

And how much would a USB hub cost? Any recommendation.

The laptop would show the same result as a desktop.

I think they are pretty cheap, like $10 or $20 over here in the states. Again, make sure it's externally powered. And get one at a local store so if it doesn't solve the problem you can just return it.
