My best advice is to get a non-USB modem.
If that isn't possible, try updating your drivers. is it hooked up to a hub perhaps?

Apparently this modem draws more than 500mA from the USB ports on your board, which causes major problems. So actually, hooking it up to a USB hub is exactly what you should try.
Also make sure it is an externally powered USB hub.
I'm bringing geeky back...

Yes thats what one of the technical guy mentioned, and i read it on the FAQ you posted. I tried it in my laptop to with the same result, so dont know where is the problem.
And how much would a USB hub cost? Any recommendation.

The laptop would show the same result as a desktop.
I think they are pretty cheap, like $10 or $20 over here in the states. Again, make sure it's externally powered. And get one at a local store so if it doesn't solve the problem you can just return it.
